A dental plaster mixer sits beside an oven. An alcohol torch stands by a pot of hot water. This is the lab where Julie Jordan Brown makes ears, eyes and noses. Restoring the faces of people with birth defects, cancer or injuries is part art and part medicine, with a bit of engineering thrown in.
